Eviction Notices

Well I guess that I was mistaken, or perhaps mistaken in renting to single mothers with credit problems due to divorce. The renters that I have in my trailer and in my 2 bedroom, 1 bath house still have not paid for January’s rent. Each of these tenants have been late every month, but have successfully come up with the rent and all late charges. But February is getting oh so close, and I need to do something about it. I have never had to evict before, so this is going to be a tough one for me.

I was able to get a phone conversation with the tenant in my trailer, and she said they are waiting on getting a tax refund check in, that was supposed to be in last Friday. I am fully aware of how people will lie and deceitfully use others to get what they want, but I am going to hold off on the first notice letter until tomorrow, as they said that the money should be there today. We will find out…

Regarding the single mother in the 2 bedroom, 1 bath house, I guess I am just going to have to submit notice to them. I am no longer able to reach them by telephone (I guess they had their number disconnected) and I have driven by a couple of times, and there has been no one home. I really hate the concept of eviction notices, but I guess it is a part of being a landlord.

But as a word of encouragement to all the other real estate investors out there, keep your head up during these times. At the very least, I will be able to keep the deposit on the house, and the location of it merits a quick turnaround, so maybe I can get someone in there pretty soon.

  1. Hi Jeffry,

I just happen to be one of those single mothers who have credit problems and in financial troubles at the moment. I have no family or friends to turn to for financial help because they are in the same situation.

I went down to my local Welfare/Social Services office just recently to get help from the state… and they aren’t even taking applications right now. The state’s budget isn’t large enough for anyone else to get help.

So where does a single mom go? It seems everyone I talk to about this is in the same financial situation… just the ones on the bottom of the financial food chain are getting hit harder/first than the others at the moment.
It’s going to be a chain reaction and everyone is going to be affected by all this given time.

I had an excellent paying job until I got laid off. I was so proud of myself that I could do it all on my own. I paid all my bills on time and was building my credit back up… It soon became very embarassing to me that I was having problems paying my bills. Trying to figure out how I was going to do it without having to work 2 or 3 jobs, since I have a child at home at the age where being unsupervised wouldn’t be a very good thing.

I understand where you’re coming from, but speaking for myself, I never, ever intended for this to happen.

I don’t think it’s fair of you to target the single mothers with this though. If my ex had paid his child support on a regular basis like he is supposed to, my financial situation wouldn’t have gotten this bad so fast.

I know of men who just don’t pay their bills… they hang out in bars and are constantly having to move because they didn’t pay their rent.

I just don’t think you’re being fair picking on single mothers.

  2. I am not “singling out” or “picking” on single mothers. This a personal finance blog, and I am simply sharing what is going on in my life, and hopefully steering people away from problems.

Fact is, divorce is ugly, and I don’t believe in it. It is against the Bible (except for the case of adultery), and all it creates is problems. I was trying to give these single mothers a second chance when no one else would, and in the end, I am the one that is paying for it.
