When you are looking around properties, whether these are for your home, a holiday home, an office or something else entirely, it is a very good idea to ensure that you choose carefully and find somewhere that will be suited to your needs and be sure to keep you happy. Whatever your use for the real estate it is going to be a highly expensive purchase and it’s very important that you choose carefully.
To this end, one of the most important parts of buying a new house is simply looking around – which unfortunately is something that too many people do in a haphazard manner without really taking some time to think about what they’re seeing.
Is it in Good Condition?
First of all it is of course very important to ensure that your property is in good condition and that it has no problems that will later cause you problems or make it difficult to sell on for a good price. For this reason you need to keep an eye out for things like mold and cracks which can otherwise prevent you from selling the building and which can otherwise cause health difficulties. Making sure the building is in good condition should be your first and most basic priority and it’s highly important that you are thorough here. Look behind radiators for signs of mold building in the air pockets, and make sure that you check for signs of fresh paint which may indicate cracks that have been since painted over.
Of course you should also get a surveyor to check over the property subsequently to make absolutely sure that the property is safe and in good condition.
Does it Meet Your Criteria?
Next you are likely to have some set criteria that you are looking for with your property. Perhaps you need a certain number of rooms, or you need to have a certain number of bathrooms. Meanwhile you will probably have preferences in terms of the heating that’s installed and the location and the neighborhood. Spend some time prior to going, and write down a list of your questions so that you can work through them with the estate agent and not forget.
Could You Live Here?
Next though it’s time to use your imagination a little and to really think about what living here would be like. This is what many people forget to do – they look around the property in a very objective matter and they are quite quick about it in order to be polite to the owners. Firstly – don’t worry about being too polite as you will be giving them a huge amount of money. At the same time don’t be ‘objective’ as choosing a property is very subjective.
So enter the property and imagine that you lived here. This way you can get that gut reaction you would feel walking into the place once you owned it. How do you feel? Try sitting down on the couch and looking around, and imagine what you’d do first. Then imagine having guests round. Could you host a party here? Would you be proud to show them the place? And then think about what you’d keep here – would all your belongings fit in okay?
